(Part one) Excise merely nodded as he moved to lean back against the rear of the first patrol car, eyes nonchalantly and coolly scanning the area once more, ever alert and aware of any potential or present threats, though he respected Liz's privacy, giving her the room and time she needed, the space she required to breath and calm herself. He didn't want a repeat of the earlier incidence, particularly not out here in the open, where they were left somewhat exposed and rather unguarded, something he didn't like. "Hm. Chief might not like that too much," he offered by way of reply when he spoke about the cuffs and beating the snot out of the prisoner, though Excise had to admit, he wouldn't mind going a few more rounds with the vampire himself - and this time, with the kid gloves off. Still, that wasn't an option, not yet, and he would simply have to refrain and restrain himself, as he normally did, learning to curb and cope with his natural anger tendancies, though not many knew about the issue the blonde male sometimes had controlling his massive temper. After all, Excise always seemed so calm...so collected. He curled his lip at Peter's revelation concerning the vampire's puppeteer, suppressing the urge to utter a soft growl - now was most certainly not the time or place, especially not if he were to continue to appear human, though he had to admit, old instincts and habits tended to die hard.

(Part two) It was natural reaction for him to respond in such a manner, any Wolven or hybrid Wolven would have performed the same feat, would have displayed the same or similar traits. As it was, it appeared, from a distance, at least, as if Excise were merely grimacing, most likely from whatever pain was still thudding through his head and rib cage. "Duly noted." A quick glance at the shorter male as he questioned about the argument confirmed he was merely concnered for Liz's well being, as Excise gathered they were close, definitely having some history, considering how they interacted and teased one another, if he were to judge by the denting comment. Quietly, keeping his own voice low so as not to let any unwelcome ears overhear, he explained that it was a brief argument about Wolven and Vampires, over the not always so obvious fact that not all of them were bad, and that not all were evil, though he refused to elaborate beyond that. However, the longer he spent in Excise's imposing presence, Peter would have been able to sense that if he were human, something was off - he didn't quite behave entirely like a normal person, and he seemed to be far more controlled and open minded than most in his position would have been towards other species, had he been. Coupled with those slight tells and Peter's own power, he would easily be able to tell Excise's secret, should he pay close enough attention, and should he be able to determine just what exactly nagged him about the huge blonde cop that seemed to be off in just the slightest and smallest of manners.

Peter blinked slowly and noticed how he reacted to hearing about what the punk said. He raised a brow at how he kept himself so calm. He deffently could tell something didn't right. He opened his mind to allow his ablitity to come out more. Hearing what the arguement was about he sighed" figured as much.... Liz...... lets just say had one to many really bad run ins with those guys..... in the police book she would be a textbook definision of victum..... but She hates to be called that.... and this goes back.... long before she was a cop even her history with them.... why her files are incomplete... as you properly heard... is because she requested them changed..... She doesn't want to be viewed as a damaged cop.... but she is.... She doesn't trust them and it's hard for her to trust anyone.... let alone let anyone in long enough to tell them why..... if she told you anything about her past today..... the first day you met her.... count yourself lucky because often... that never happens... it takes her months if not years to open up about her past...." he said softly just so he could hear him... even queiter even just to see if he could hear him. Liz was leaning against the car rubbing her hand a little taking deep breaths. Her gaze slowly calming down to their normal hues.

(Part one) Excise was now busy paying more attention to their surroundings, and it would seem, to Liz, though he used a more descrete method of keeping an eye upon her rather than straight out staring - he would merely toss a subtle glance her way here and there while opening up his senses to encompass the surrounding area as far as he dared without the associated facial morph that resulted in his otherwise handsome features going more wolfish, revealing his Wolven heritage, a gene code he kept hidden from those in the force and city for as long as possible. Only a rare few knew of his secret, the chief being one of them, but for the most part, everyone thought him to be a normal human...with some odd quirks here and there, but considering this was the Forbidden City, home of all things freaky, most didn't pay enough attention to start putting things together or adding them up. Such as the fact that Excise usually ended up with some sort of crazy hunches that turned out to be correct, or how he seemed to anticipate something happening just before it did, as he had with Liz, pulling her out of the line of fire so that she was merely winged in the arm instead of outright killed. Or how he always, always, managed to track down his targets once he'd been in their presence. In those cases, it was due to the fact that he had memorized their scent, but the rest of the force didn't know that, and they respected him for his instincts, congratulating him on being a fine cop. It was clear that he was a good man behind the calm and rather icy exterior - in fact, he came off as being so cold it was surprising he wasn't oozing icicles, but he was loyal to a fault, and would watch a partner's back until the day he died or they were separated, often looking out for the rookies while out and about or taking a new officer under his wing for a bit to show them the inner workings of the department, or perhaps how to survive a police chase (even if he led in these types of cases by example rather than distant coaching) though he'd never spend more than a day or two with them tops, he'd make sure they knew the ropes, or nearly yank his hair out trying. Though he was not an unkind man, nor was he unduly harsh unless he had to be, Excise was strong in his beliefs, and almost never swayed from them without good reason, even if he might not exactly be to open with what that reason behind his logical workings or own personal feelings might be. Nor did he normally let his own emotions get the better of him on the job - it wouldn't do for him to end up dead and having to explain how he suddenly came back to life or to get his partner (though he'd only had one so far, until Liz's arrival) killed in action or out. He'd put his own arguments aside usually, and for the most part, to create a smooth working relationship, it was just that after a day like today, sometimes even his seemingly infinite patience ran out, and he found himself a bit snappier or snippier than usual.

(Part two) One thing was for sure, he most certainly didn't feel like dealing with the vampire's bull tonight, and upon further reflection, he considered the idea that it might do some good to let the blood sucker stew in the genearl population of his own kind for a few hours - he would smell of wolf, thanks to being around Excise, which would, in turn, lead his cohorts not to trust him. Should make him plenty chatty come morning, after being subjected to a night of torture by his own people while the guards looked the other way, either unwilling or unable to do anything to help the strange male, especially after he had killed one of their own number. Excise threw off a shiver at the thought, reminding himself that despite all appearances, he was not his mother, and he was not some evil, vile creature without a heart. He was merely a bit strict in his methods and wasn't afraid to go the extra mile to get a confession, if that's what it took or was necessary to close a case. Listening to Peter, the male was too preoccupied with the facts of the case, the problem of their prisoner, a currently immovable car, and the problem of how he was going to patch things up with Liz to note that the other officer was growing softer and softer in tone and voice, though under normal circumstances, the blond haired giant would have picked it up in a heartbeat, and would have eased his way around the careful subject with the tricky ease born of experience. But as it was, he at least demonstrated that if he was indeed human, or at least, part, as he seemed to be, as Peter couldn't really tell just what he was, as of yet, at least, not in this particular instant of time, he had the superb ability known as super senses. All he uttered in response was the quiet promise of, "I'll look after her." He left the rest alone, as it was just between him and Liz, and Excise didn't know Peter well enough to discuss such things with the other male, though he knew - he wasn't daft, after all - that the brown haired human and Liz herself were close. They clearly had history, but seeing as neither had elaborated and it wasn't really any of Excise's business, he didn't push the issue, or pull at the topic to pry. They would tell him when they were ready, and that was that. "Watch the car will you? I need to make sure she's alright." With that, the six foot seven inch male pulled away from the vehicle, green gaze never wavering, distant stare never once faltering, as he made his way over to his new partner, the female whose presence he had not asked for, but whom he had been saddled with all the same. He didn't mind her, really, she seemed to be a good cop, and it wasn't like she had asked for such a catastrophe of a first day, or the rising ire that was both their tempers in the heat of the moment. A moment that, upon further reflection, showed Excise he should have most likely kept his mouth firmly shut. Still, the past was the past, and try as he might, he could not change it. Simply learn from it, and move on. Coming to stand beside Liz, he held out his hand, not invading her personal space or demeaning her by simply grabbing her own limb, blowing a soft sigh through his nostrils as he assumed a position similar to the one he had held when standing beside the first patrol car, where he had been next to Peter. "Hand," he murmured quietly, and though it was all he said, it was soft enough to where only she would hear, and its meaning quite clear. He wished to see her own so that he might give some sort of first aid, seeing as they were on their own out here, or at least assess the damage and determine just how extensively his new partner had been hurt, not liking the singular fact that she had been injured, least of all enjoying the fact that it had been because of him.

Peter nodded slowly and leaned against the car. He sighed and watched them. Liz was calmed down now and inwardly kicking herself for speaking out like that and being so blunt.. She hardly ever lost her temper like that and she didn't like that she blurted out at him like that.. But that was in the past and she couldn't change it.. like she couldn't go back to the day her brother died and save him or go back to the day her parents died and save them. it was impossible to do that. All she can do is learn from it and move on... When she heard foot steps she glanced up and saw him. She blinked slowly a little surprised that he walked over to her after their fight in the car. Hearing him say that she blinked confused for a moment and glanced up at him. Then she realized he wished to see her hand that she smacked against the car. She hesitated for a moment thinking that she didn't need it looked at and she was fine but she knew that he came over here and it would be better to patch things up and allow him to check her over and show that she still trusts him even after a fight. She slowly reached her hand out and set it in his. She glanced up at him before looking down. She let out a sigh and bit her lip. Her hand was going to be bruised and had a small hairline sprain to it. but wasn't to bad for how hard she hit it against the car. After a moment she finally spoke" I'm sorry... I shouldn't have snapped and blurted stuff out like that.... it's just... this kind of case with wolven and Vampires is kind of a sore subject for me and I struggle with my temper during such cases "She said gently.

Site Owner Posts: 550 | Excise grunted in response to her tension, frowning at the sight of her hand and wrist, flipping it over to further his examination, though he was careful to move it gently, and to keep the motions as smooth as possible. The long blonde tresses that hung just outside of his ponytail, two long strands that were not quite bangs, drifted down in front of his eyes, momentarily hiding the haunting green of his gaze for the briefest of seconds before he brushed them away. He didn't like the looks of it should it be left alone, even though it was simply a minor sprain. He resisted the urge to growl to himself in slight frustration - he shouldn't have let his temper flare so badly, nor should he have let it get the better of him. "I think I've got a brace in the car," he murmured, then cursed softly to himself once the realization hit - he wasn't in the Camaro any longer, and most likely wouldn't be for a good long while. It would require some extensive repairs before it was ready for the road again. He sighed, knowing that at this point, there wasn't really anything else he could do. Besides give her an order she would most likely not follow. But still, he would give it anyway. "When we get back you need to wrap that. Keep it stable, even if it's just so it won't get worse." He paused when she spoke, listening quietly to the apology she offered, knowing it had cost a lot to even utter, to even begin to come to terms with. But she was not the only the only one responsible, not the only to blame. He was just as guilty, and should be held just as accountable. And besides, it wasn't as if he were being completely honest with her...not yet. Excise could clearly tell that now was not the time. She simply wasn't ready to hear about his Hybrid Wolven heritage. The male known as the officer by the name of Excise raised a shoulder in a half hearted, one sided shrug, his voice, when he spoke, a testament to his own apology. "Don't worry about it. I'm just as entitled to the blame. I shouldn't have let my temper get the better of me; everyone has their own views, beliefs, and opinions. I need to start making it a habit to remember that." With that, he normally would have pulled away, but instead, he opted to remain by his partner, in an attempt to further seal and strengthen their already tightening, rapidly cementing, bond. He waited for a few seconds, then, because he figured she might not care for the quiet, or feel as if the silence were awkward, Excise offered, "Where exactly are you staying? Until you get to know the city a bit better, perhaps I can drop you off on the way home." It wasn't as if he minded, and being that he was single and lived alone, it most certainly wasn't as if he had anything better to do - after all, at the end of the day, all Excise really wished for was to make sure that his partner stayed - and wholeheartedly remained - safe.

Member Posts: 1717 | Liz let him check over her wrist and she knew she should listen to him. She gave a gentle nod and looked up at him. She listened to him say his peace and gave a faint smile. When he asked where she was staying she gave a small chuckle" over at *names motel in the rough part of town* " she said calmly. She set her wrist against herself to keep it stable. She glanced over towards Peter who was talking on the phone with someone. She knew he wasn't just talking but fighting with the person on the other side.

A cop showed up to the place and parked. he rolled down the window" Hey Peter I could use some help I just got called out to a fellow cops place he needs some back up mind coming along? "he asked. Peter nodded and hung up. he glanced over towards Liz and Excise. He nodded and put his hand up to his ear letting Liz know he's being called up. Liz simply gave a nod and waved bye to him with her good hand.

Site Owner Posts: 550 | Excise lifted a brow at the revelation of where she was staying, wondering if she knew it was one of tje worst parts of town - probably not, seeing as she was new and didn't yet know to much about the city and the places contained within it. He blinked and twisted his head, rotating his upper torso, towards the patrol car as it came up, pne edge of his lip curling momentarily for a spilt second before he recognized who it was, giving the young officer a nod of assent. He watched carefully as Peter entered the car and prepared to head out, observing the hand sign even if he wasn't quite sure what it was or meant, merely glancing back at Liz as another pair of comrades in arms pulled up, ready and prepared to take both them and the prisoner back to HQ. "'Til you get a place you should stay with me. Be better - and safer - than that seedy motel." He made the offer of genuine concern and caring, nothing more and nothing less, something she could already tell within just a few hours of meeting him.

Liz watched Peter walk off and sighed some hoping he would be careful. she blinked and glanced at him... She nodded gently" sounds good. that place isn't the best place around... though it's what I could afford while I look for a house "she said gently. She glanced at him and smiled" thanks Excise "She said gently and friendly. She showed her softer side a side that just a few hours ago he didn't see hardly at all after being chewed out by the chief.

The blonde male had observed Peter's departure as well, carefully, making certain he would be alright as they pulled away, or at least, as alright as riding to a scene in a squad car could be. He only hoped that Peter made it out of whatever situation it was alive and unwounded, because if now, he would have some extra work to do tonight after hours...in addition to what he'd already accumalated. Which might be an issue with having Liz over, but he wasn't too concerned - he was sure he could get by with it, or have some reasonable explanation to present her with, if it came down to it. He snorted in response to her statement, agreeing quietly, "It's a pretty rough area." Upon her thanks, Excise shrugged once again, responding, "No problem. I have the room but don't ever really have any opportunity to use it. At least this way paying the rent is made worthwhile. 'Sides, you're my partner. I'm supposed to look out for you." It was probably the most endearing thing she'd ever heard the distant male say, though he now seemed relaxed around her, as if he had let his guards down a bit, showing he wasn't all ice and hard angles, as many seemed to think upon first meeting him. In fact, the officer Liz had spoken too before at the scene was quickly being proven right: Excise had a big heart, beneath the distant exterior, and lived to aid and serve others, wishing only to help them through tough times and ensure their safety and well being. It was what made him such a good cop, and what made him a valuable partner, though he normally preferred to work alone. He found, however, he didn't mind Liz, and that though they'd had a rough first day, he thought it would work out in the end. It had definitely cemented their partner relationship and shown the other just what each blonde was capable of and how far they were willing to go in the line of duty and to protect one another, even if they might argue and disagree on some things. It would be an interesting friendship, to say the least, but a strong and healthy one, no doubt.

Excise was once again scanning the area, and so appeared busy when she asked him her question, though the male seemed to tense upon having the words sink in, his back straightening ever so slightly, almost imperceptibly, and his luminous green eyes blinking for a second as he risked a glance back at her, judging inwardly what she knew or thought she knew, and wondering how much he could get away with telling her - certainly not that he was part Wolven, part Vampire. She most definitely would not take kindly to that news, and it was too early in their relationship to shatter her trust in such a manner. He supposed he could use the excuse of a power, but then, how was he to explain the crime scene earlier? Humans, if gifted at all, normally only had one ability, and she might very well think that was it. A lie then, was the only way, though the thought sickened him at heart and churned nauseatingly at his core. He turned his unreadable eyes back out to their surroundings, idly wondering when back up would come - it was taking longer than usual, that was for sure - before he responded with a slight shrug and prompt wince at the movement while it jarred his own ribs, though the revealing grimace of discomforting pain wasn't a good idea either, it made his head swim uncertainly even as he stood there. It was just a good thing he wasn't walking or moving to keenly about - if he had been, he surely would have face planted, or at the very least, have stumbled back. The length of corn colored hair that was his pony tail scritched softly against the fabric of his shirt with his movements, and he leaned back partially against the car, feeling the burdens of the day catching up to him now that the adrenaline rush was fading and they were given some time for the aches and soreness of such pains to set in. Perhaps he wouldn't be going out tonight, either, even though he really needed to. Only time would tell, and he would have to play this carefully, especially since Liz was going to be staying with them, which made him wonder if he should invite Peter too; it might make his partner feel more at ease, and then there was the fact that he might not have the best of accomodations, either. Still, all this distracted from the real purpose of his line of thought, and without further ado, or prompting, for that matter, hoping he hadn't already raised her suspicions, he spoke, albeit softly, with an unusual quiet to his voice that reflected perfectly his type of person. "Dunno. Just lucky, I guess." He could bring up the fact of his bruised rib cage and the throbbing gash that was opened along his skull, but he chose not to bring such minor injuries into the equation. Not when talking, at least.

Liz noticed that he seemed to tense up when she asked him but didn't say anything about it. sometimes being reminded caused pain and she inwardly winced at the thought and took a deep breath only to cause herself to wince. The pain of the crash and the bullet wound was getting to her now. He could smell her blood on her but it was mostly all old and dry by now. Hearing his answer she nodded" Very lucky then... I didn't get hit that badly in the wreak and I'm sore "she muttered softly. She saw a police car drive up and walk over to them" hey sorry about that. there was a big situation that happened and we got pilled up with stuff "he said smoothly. he glanced over to see the Liz. He remembered spoting her walk out of the office with him this morning" this your new partner Excise? I heard she got chewed out by the cheif this morning "he said smoothly. Liz huffed and looked away having been reminded of that. There she was again that girl that was full of attutide and distant that Excise met this morning. It was clear she didn't like being reminded of down falls of past events. didn't like reflecting on the past. or looking like someone who isn't capable of doing her job well.

Excise could indeed smell the blood upon her still yet, though as far as he could tell, there was very little that was new. Still, it had been a long day, and he knew they were both beginning to tire - heck, "beginning" probably wasn't even the right word. More like they were bone weary and most likely ready to collapse into bed at any second, given the chance, but Excise hadn't even entertained the idea due to the fact that they remained on duty and continued to be responsible for the health and well being of their prisoner, in addition to being alert for threats or potential causes of concern to the slow, and sometimes, inefficient justice system, though the people tried, oh how the people tried. Many of the prosecutors felt as helpless as the force on a normal day, for as many criminals were arrested were set free to roam the streets once more, something that had begun to discourage even the stoutest and most devout of cops. Sometimes Excise himself wondered, but he always pushed the thoughts aside and carried on, continuing to do his best...and occasionally making up for a slip on his own time, under the cover of night, of course. Hearing her comment, he once again displayed his miraculous hearing by muttering in his own quiet tone, "Not my first crash landing, either." It helped, somewhat, at least, to gain some experience with whatever it was you were dealing with, and a wreck was no different. Due to his Hybrid blood, Excise had walked away from many a scary situation unscathed, but most, when asked, merely threw it off as him being incredibly "lucky." They never paused to consider what that luck might mean, or that it might lead into the fact that Excise was not even remotely human, let alone the fact that he had powers and abilties, gifts given to him due to his Wolven side, though the Vampiric bloodline helped in that regard, as well. The officer's approach brought his luminous green gaze snapping upon him in almost an instant, showing just how wary and watchful, just how observant, he was, and Liz was left to wonder what his power really was, even if she didn't quite yet question his heritage and bloodlines, not yet, anyway. That would come later, when she found out without a doubt and without even a sliver or shred of proof otherwise, that he was, indeed, at least a portion, Wolven. A fun fact that would, and could, wait until another time, and another day. Hearing his explanation, Excise lifted one shoulder - the one that would not hurt quite as badly - in a gesture of a shrug, as if to say, "Alright, no big deal." He understood how it was, knew that things could come up and that it could get a little hectic now and then, especially when it came to the topic and subject of providing relief. The other officer's nonchalant attitude and the smooth way in which he rolled his tongue regarding Liz, however, ruffled Excise, and if he had been in his animal form, the fur along his spine would have lifted in a defensive posture, especially when he felt as much as heard the other blonde's reaction behind the partially turned structure and surface of his back; his new partner had no great love for the entire department knowing her business, he knew, just as he also knew it was impossible to stop the spread of rumors and all but impossible to halt the talk of such once it got started that the chief had chewed someone out - he'd been in the same boat himself a time or two. He knew she was shutting down and putting on that cold, tough attitude she'd been displaying this morning, he could sense the change as easily as he could see it, and his response to the other officer, as he spoke, was cold and clipped, as icy and distant as they come. "Liz, meet Raiz. Raiz, this is Liz." The introduction was sparse and to the point, though outwardly, Excise showed only the most serene and crystalline of calms. "Though if I were you, Rai, I'd drop the subject with the chief. 'Sides, we've all gotten on his bad side at some time or another." He took up for her again, not once, but twice, that day, even after the particularly nasty little argument of a spat they'd had earlier, revealing he was loyal, if he were nothing else, though one had to admit, he wasn't particularly easy to get on with, not at times, at least. To Excise, Liz would always be able to do her job well, and seemed to be one of the more skilled, and seasoned, cops on the force, one who was able to pull her own weight and maintain her own hold over all of the scum and unhealthy situations their jobs required them to sometimes go into and in which they were required to become involved.

Liz didn't say anything when Excise introducted them. She just merely gave a short nod showing she didn't like how he spoke about her. Raiz blinked and swallowed" yeah..... "he said smoothly. Raiz was a known fighter in the department and often challanged everyone to a sparing match beating most of them. Raiz's grinned" yeah well at least we got some new faces in the department. Leon joined the force and so did Peter... man Peter is a declorated officer back in chicago. "he said calmly. Liz grumbled something under her breath. only Excise could barely hear her words" yeah thanks to me ". Raiz grinned "I wonder how they do in a sparing match against me.. I'm sure Leon will do good since he's from Raccoon City "he said gently. Liz blinked" Wait THAT LEON? " she said calmly.

Site Owner Posts: 550 | "That so?" He knew Peter was here, but hadn't realized that he would be joining the force as well. Heck, he hadn't even known about Liz until that morning; he just usually didn't keep up with that sort of news. He was normally working on more important things. Leon's arrival, however, was hard to miss - the guy was a legend, and even someone as isolated as Excise could not keep from hearing about it one way or another. "Thought Leon was due next week." Perhaps he had gotten here early? Interesting. The giant blonde noted Liz's comment once Raiz seemed to have overlooked her again, and inwardly, he smiled, just the tiniest bit amused - he was well aware of the fact Liz and Peter went way back, and was also acutely aware of the knowledge Luz could most likely put Raiz through no limit of shame, should she be given the chance. But that would have to wait for another time. Excise had honestly begun half paying attention to Raiz once he began to spout off about matches - he had never participated himself, but most seemed to think he could hold his own, should he have tried, really and truly applied himself. Liz's reaction surprised him for only a moment regarding the news of the arrival, but after a second consideration, figured it was more than normal. Most had that sort of response, he supposed.

Raiz did notice she muttered something and raised a brow before hearing her responce" yep that' Leon and yeah he got here yesterday and right now he's tending to take care of a girl who was targeted by the gang. I think Peter went to be on the case as well... I think Peter also got someone to take your car to the shop it's already ready to be picked up "he said gently. Liz blinked" wow that's fast and do you mind... lets continue this talk on the way to the station... I don't want to be in the street longer then I need to... besides it's get this punk in jail and call it a night. "she muttered. A part of her wanted to go out tonight and kick some butt but she didn't know how she could do that with the wounds she got.
